The Thompson Twins

i sometimes forget how much i love the thompson twins. that is slightly inaccurate – i love 5 of their songs, and the rest are just ok. but those 5 that i love, i love so, so much. the thompson twins are 80s, but a bit dreamy too.

you can probably guess the 5.

Hold Me Now
Doctor! Doctor!
Lay Your Hands
King For a Day
If You Were Here

That is kind of in order of preference. I must have been 8 or 9, but “Hold Me Now” was such an amazing radio hit in my mind. I love the mid tempo, the chord progressions. I kind of love Tom Bailey’s voice, strong but sometimes cracking in that 80s angsty way (“pinned to my wall”). Maybe I just loved the blue walls in the video, and the way Alannah Currie would dance with her fists raised even during such a mellow song.

Joe Leeway’s falsetto was always this bonus. Really do we get this type of aesthetic mix in music today?

I was going to write about Doctor! Doctor! – alas, I didn’t want to give the impression that it’s my #1 favorite TT song. I know, who cares, right? I don’t quite know why but the music snob in me feels like these things are important. (LOL a music “snob” who likes cheesy 80s music)
